Today, August 12, is International Youth Day and, according to the United Nations, its objective is to give the world an opportunity "to recognize the potential of youth, to celebrate their achievements, and plan for ways to better engage."
In that spirit, GlobalThink is encouraging young people to participate in our exciting new project: Youth Voices.
Youth:·If you are selected to participate, this is your chance to share what you believe is important -- in your life, for your friends & family, for your community, and for the rest of the world. You will receive a set of questions to help with the process. We will also provide you with a mini video camera (no experience required).
Parents/Guardians: We need your written consent to comply with certain rules and requirements, to agree to have your child participate in this project, and, of course, to promise to return the video camera!
Stay tuned for more details to follow...hopefully, within the next few days. The applications will also be available shortly. |

After Ghana's defeat of the United States in the Round of 16, the Black Stars are anxiously awaiting their next match against Uruguay in the quarterfinals of the 2010 FIFA World Cup on Friday. Only two other African teams have progressed to the quarterfinals of the World Cup -- Cameroon in 1990 and Senegal in 2002 -- and if Ghana is able to beat Uruguay it will be the first African team to reach the semifinals.
According to White House spokesman, Robert Gibbs, US President, Barack Obama, and Ghana's President, John Atta Mills, will exchange soccer jerseys the next time they meet -- during an upcoming summit in Toronto, Canada.
