GlobalThink Summer Camp

GlobalThink conducted a summer camp for 8-12 year olds.  It was a week-long camp and the children learned about other cultures through music, art, discussion, and debate.

There was a geographic and cultural focus on West Africa (Mali, Ghana) and a topical focus on water scarcity and our relationship with water around the world.

The kids were evaluated at the beginning and end of the camp. They said they were much more curious than before the camp about other cultures and environmental issues and reported being “excited about making changes that will make the world a better place.” All in all, the camp was a success!  Read more about it in our newsletter.

Makhenkesi Stofile has confirmed that former South African president Nelson Mandela might be attending the opening match of the FIFA World Cup tournament on June 11th.  The opening match is between South Africa and Mexico in Johannesburg.

Mandela, fondly known by his tribal name "Madiba" has requested tickets for the first match as well as for the final match a month later, also in Johannesburg.  The frail 91-year-old has rarely been seen in public in recent years and the World Cup organizers are very hopeful that he will brave the chilly winter conditions and make an appearance at the game next week.  2010 FIFA World Cup Schedule.
