The United Nations Food & Agriculture Organization (FAO) is asking people to donate $5 to buy a fruit tree for a child in Haiti.  A $5 donation will pay for a mango, avocado or other fruit tree seedling and includes soil, fertilizer and weeding for the first year.

Over 200,000 lives were lost in the January earthquake in Haiti and it also has one of the worst deforestation rates in the world.  The fruit trees are expected to protect the soil against floods, to serve as a hands-on education tool for teachers, and to provide nutritional value for school children.  You can make a donation at https://getinvolved-donate.fao.org/
