GlobalThink Summer Camp

GlobalThink conducted a summer camp for 8-12 year olds.  It was a week-long camp and the children learned about other cultures through music, art, discussion, and debate.

There was a geographic and cultural focus on West Africa (Mali, Ghana) and a topical focus on water scarcity and our relationship with water around the world.

The kids were evaluated at the beginning and end of the camp. They said they were much more curious than before the camp about other cultures and environmental issues and reported being “excited about making changes that will make the world a better place.” All in all, the camp was a success!  Read more about it in our newsletter.

Home Why GlobalThink
Why GlobalThink?

GlobalThink is about cultivating a global perspective and understanding the complex interconnectedness and interdependence of all living things on this earth. It is about raising awareness about the rest of the world and learning the values of tolerance, cooperation and peaceful conflict resolution.

GlobalThink provides the resources to follow these threads of interconnectedness to the other end of the world and then back again.

GlobalThink inspires us to seize every opportunity we get to learn more about other people and cultures, the environment, and our power to impact and change the world. We might start our journey at home or at school but our links to distant people, places, and practices will frame and inform our actions and profoundly influence our thoughts. It will also bring the rest of the world closer to home.

Most importantly, GlobalThink is about sharing - our dreams, our hopes, our passions, our needs, and our opinions - using traditional and innovative means such as letter writing, online technologies, games, iPhone applications, and video. It is about working together, in local groups as well as spread out in international communities, to approach the vast and profound challenges around the globe.

We will be forging relationships, having fun, being creative, choosing the kind, just, sustainable and peaceful path, and thinking and learning more than we ever imagined we would about our place in this world. We will watch as GlobalThink becomes part of our vocabulary and state of mind and starts to infuse our daily choices and routines.

As global thinkers and world citizens, we will notice how boundaries blur and we begin to seek out more multicultural and cross-cultural experiences and influences. As caretakers of the earth, we will notice how we start to make more conscious and well-informed choices about our careers and lifestyles after first considering their impact on society and the earth.
